Lovely design! Despite the scan crunching some of the shading... the level of detail in this is painfully(in a good way of course!) beautiful. The "breaking through" areas are great,... subtle but add a lot to its personality.

I think your dragon wouldhave gain a lot of readability and power if it was less coiled around itself though... I find the head quite hard to see with its body all close begind...

Wow, this is a great first posting! I think this is a great idea for a tattoo also. The only crit I have is that the area around the dragons mouth and I guess it would be the "chest", and the small part of the body right near there sort of blend together a little. If its a tattoo, you might want to lighten up his face a bit, because once the ink is put down it can't be made any darker to help other areas pop out more. Sort of like an etching. Great work!
